THE NIGHT I CHOSE LOYALTY OVER TEMPTATION

Last night, as I lay in bed, my wife was sleeping peacefully beside me. The house was quiet, the lights dim, and the only sound was the soft rhythm of her breathing. She had fallen asleep quickly, exhausted after a long day of work and responsibilities.

Just then, my phone buzzed. A Facebook notification lit up the screen.

Someone had sent me a friend request. It was a name I hadn’t seen in a long time—an old friend from the past. Curious, I clicked on her profile. Her picture was striking. She looked beautiful, almost exactly the same as I remembered her.

Without thinking too much, I accepted the request and sent her a message:

“Hey, do we know each other?”

Within moments, she replied:

“I heard you got married… but I still love you.”

My heart skipped a beat. Her words lingered in the air. She was someone I had once known, maybe even admired, and now here she was—reaching out in the silence of the night, stirring something I couldn’t quite name.

But as I stared at the message, I slowly turned my head to look at the woman sleeping beside me.

There she was—my wife. Peacefully asleep, trusting, vulnerable. She looked so calm, so at ease, resting in our bed, in this home we had just begun to build together.

And in that moment, something hit me deeply.

This woman beside me had left behind everything she once knew—her parents’ home, where she was surrounded by love every single day. The house where she had spent her entire life, where her mother would comfort her with warm arms whenever she was sad, where her siblings would tease her just to make her laugh, where her father would come home with small gifts just to see her smile.

She had left all of that behind and placed her trust in me.

She believed in our future together. She believed in me.

And here I was, holding a message from someone who hadn’t been a part of my life for years—someone who showed up out of the blue, offering a temptation that only leads to destruction.

I looked again at my wife. How could I betray the woman who gave up everything to start a life with me? The one who now sleeps soundly, knowing that she is safe beside me?

All these thoughts flooded my mind like a wave, and I knew what I had to do.

I picked up the phone again. I opened the message, pressed “Block”, and quietly placed the phone back on the table.

Then I turned toward her, wrapped my arm gently around her, and closed my eyes.

Because I am a man—not a boy chasing after fleeting attention.

I made a promise, a vow—to love her, to protect her, to remain faithful to her no matter what.

And I will keep that promise. I will be the kind of man who does not break hearts or tear families apart.

Even when no one is watching, even in the silence of the night, I will choose loyalty.

Because in a world where it’s easy to fall, I want to be the kind of man who always stands tall.
