Nationwide — Indi Bullock, a 5-year-old African American boy who is non-verbal, was found dead in a pond behind an apartment complex in Gwinnett County, Georgia after a 14-hour search. He went missing after jumping from the balcony of his home.
Police said Bullock was last seen at the Reflections on Sweetwater Apartments in Lawrenceville around 4:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 27th. Shortly after, he jumped over the balcony and disappeared.
The Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) launched an extensive search using multiple resources. His body was found the next morning, Friday, March 28, near a retention pond behind the complex.
“It’s emotional for everyone involved. It’s hard for everyone to deal with when you end up with an innocent child who walked away from the apartment complex and ended up in the retention pond,” Gwinnett County Police Corporal Ryan Winderweedle told 11 Alive.
Authorities said they do not suspect foul play, but the investigation remains open. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.
Bullock’s mother, Chakia Carter, set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs. It has so far raised nearly $20,000.
She described her son as a “bright, beautiful soul who brought joy to everyone who knew him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled.”
