Evansville Officers Replace Teen’s Stolen Lawn Mower After Learning How He Used It
Over the weekend, officers with the Evansville Police Department responded to what seemed like a routine theft report. There was no break-in or large-scale crime involved — just a simple call about a missing lawn mower.
When the responding officers arrived, however, they quickly discovered that this was more than a case of stolen equipment.
The victim was a 14-year-old boy. The mower that had gone missing wasn’t just a tool — it was his birthday present. More importantly, it was something he had been using to help others.
According to the officers, the teenager had spent much of his free time mowing lawns for elderly neighbors in his community. He refused any payment, choosing instead to volunteer his time as an act of kindness.
Moved by the boy’s story, several officers from the department’s west side precinct decided to take action. Rather than simply file the report and move on, they pooled their own money to buy him a replacement mower. Officer Seibert personally went to Lowe’s to purchase a brand-new model, along with a gas can.
There was no press conference or public announcement — just a quiet act of generosity.
Soon after, the local outlet Evansville Watch shared a photo showing the young teen standing proudly beside his new mower, surrounded by the officers who had made it possible. The image quickly spread across social media, receiving widespread praise.
Unlike most viral posts fueled by outrage or controversy, this one resonated for a different reason — it celebrated genuine compassion.
In a time when headlines often focus on conflict and negativity, this moment stood out as a reminder that acts of simple goodness still exist — and that many of them come from people who serve their communities every day without seeking attention.
Officer Seibert, Officer Siegel, and their colleagues did more than replace a stolen item. They restored a sense of hope — and showed a 14-year-old that his kindness had not gone unnoticed.
Through their gesture, they reminded everyone that behind the uniform are neighbors, mentors, and role models who make a quiet but lasting difference.
