Nationwide — Tragic deaths in Hazel Park: African American mother and son found slain, suspect arrested

Linda Hill, a 41-year-old African American woman, and her 12-year-old son, Kardi Jackson, were tragically found dead inside their home in Hazel Park, Michigan, on September 1st. The following day, authorities arrested a 43-year-old man from nearby Pontiac in connection with the killings.

Police discovered the bodies late on Monday afternoon. Both victims had sustained traumatic injuries, with reports indicating wounds to their necks, according to People. By Tuesday evening, Hazel Park police, in coordination with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at the suspect’s location and took him into custody. The suspect’s name has not yet been released by officials.

Family members described Hill as a compassionate and caring individual who looked out for those around her. In an effort to help cover funeral expenses, Hill’s sister, L’Keisha Whitfield, created a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised more than $11,000.

“Linda was loved by everyone who knew her,” Whitfield wrote. She also shared fond memories of Kardi, describing him as “the sweetest child” who enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his family.

Kardi’s older brother, 21-year-old Demontez Hill, expressed the deep impact of the loss. “He’s like a younger version of me, always playing around and having fun,” he said. Tributes also poured in from Kardi’s former teacher, who described him as a kind and gentle young man, while his school released a statement offering condolences to the family.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the killings but have stated that they believe the case to be isolated and that the community is not at risk. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
