Halloween season is here—a time for fun, chills, and spooky decorations! While everyone enjoys the excitement of Halloween, it's also an opportunity to show kindness and compassion.
One Halloween fan, Salena Webb, a mother of four from South Carolina, demonstrated this perfectly in a TikTok video that’s gone viral. Known for her love of Halloween, Salena transforms her yard each year with a full graveyard scene, including ghosts, spiderwebs, pumpkins, a witch, tombstones, and skeletons carrying a casket. She put a lot of effort into creating this impressive display.
Recently, her neighbor approached her with a unique request. His elderly father, who had just been diagnosed with lung cancer, found the graveyard decorations unsettling. Understanding her neighbor's perspective, Salena immediately agreed to make changes.
In the TikTok video, her neighbor explains, “My dad just got diagnosed with lung cancer. He thinks the decorations are a bit scary.” He pointed to the casket in the yard and asked if she’d consider taking it down. Salena quickly understood his concern and felt moved to help. She shared, “I didn’t want my decorations to be a reminder of something challenging for him. I wanted to be compassionate.”
So, Salena removed the casket and added a light-hearted touch, giving the skeletons badminton rackets instead! She also relocated other spooky elements to her backyard. “At first, I felt a little sad to change my setup,” Salena shared in her TikTok caption, “but it didn’t take anything away from me—and it helped my neighbor feel better. Kindness and compassion go a long way.”
Her gesture has been met with appreciation and praise. Many viewers applauded her for her empathy. One TikTok user commented, “This is what being a good neighbor is all about. Kindness doesn’t cost anything.” Another wrote, “This was beautifully handled. The world needs more people like you!”
Salena’s neighbor was also deeply appreciative. After she removed the casket, she even brought him a card and balloons to show her support. Though they didn’t speak the same language fluently, he expressed his gratitude, telling her, “You’re good people.”
Salena’s story reminds us that even during Halloween, kindness and understanding can make a big difference.
